Richard Henry Scarella

SCARELLA, RICHARD HENRY 90 of Port Republic passed away on Thursday August 25, 2016. Often known as “the tomato guy” for sharing his organic jersey tomatoes with family, friends and neighbors. He was a Private First Class seaman during WWII serving proudly on the USS LST 949 at the battle of Okinawa. During his time in the Navy he learned the value of discipline which served him well working for Union Local 172 building jetties from Cape May to Maine. He learned wine making from his father, was a self taught organic gardener, a husband, a father, a brother and pop pop. He was a genuinely unique man and we are much less colorful without him.
