Louise Palmentieri (Borzellino), 96, passed away on October 28, 2025. Born in Atlantic City, she was a lifelong resident and graduate of Atlantic City High School.
She was the secretary for the Boardwalk Travel Bureau and was a former receptionist-secretary for radio station WFPG Steel Pier in Atlantic City for many years. Louise became a charter member of the Chelsea Neighborhood Association at the onset of casino gaming, Vice President for two years and President for eight years. She was elected the 5th ward Councilwoman in 1988 to 1992 and became the first woman elected to city government in Atlantic City. Louise was inducted into the Atlantic County Women’s Hall of Fame in 1998.
She served as Senior Vice Commander of the Atlantic City Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary of Chapter #10 and was a lifelong member and received the Veterans Allied Council Award. She was a member of the Purple Heart Chapter #155 committee for placing a Purple Heart monument at O’Donnell Parkway in Atlantic City on Providence Avenue and Atlantic. She presented the initial concept to the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority which they approved and sponsored. She served on the planning board as well as served as Chairperson of the Revenue and Finance Committee. She was a member of the Public Works Committee, Intergovernmental Committee, and Police and Fire Committee. She was appointed as a member of the Touche-Ross Audit Committee by the Mayor.
Louise received the 101 Women plus Award, the Mayors Certificate of Appreciation Award from Mayor James Whelan, the Atlantic City Magazine “People to Watch Award”, the Women’s Chamber of Commerce Service Award, the Atlantic City Memorial Day Parade Award, the NJ State Assembly Commendation Award in 1994, served as a Brighton Ave School Room Mother for many years, was a volunteer for the School Club Scout programs, and a volunteer as a New Jersey Notary Public. Louise was actively engaged in Code Enforcement to make a difference to upgrade the city’s housing conditions and to improve and beautify the Boardwalk businesses, as well as to address major zoning issues and problems throughout the city. She was instrumental at the onset of casino gaming in getting an Ordinance for Residential Sticker Parking introduced by City Council in Atlantic City for the betterment of its residents’ parking problems in the 5th and 6th wards, as well as having it expanded to other sections of the city as needed. It was unanimously passed by the City Council and then signed by the Mayor. It remains in effect today.
Louise is predeceased by her husband of 70 years, John Palmentieri, a World War II veteran and Purple Heart recipient; her son, Thomas Palmentieri, the former Mayor of Hamilton Township; her parents, Louise and Joseph Borzellino; her brother, Raymond Borzellino; granddaughter, Cheryl Palmentieri; daughter-in-law, Jill Palmentieri; and sister, Kay Gribbins.
Surviving Louise is her daughter, Carol Arlan (Roger); and grandchildren, Christopher Van Horn (Jennifer), Cynthia Palmentieri and Ginamarie Jimerson; daughter-in-law Deborah Palmentieri; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 10AM to 11AM on November 3, 2025 at Parsels Funeral Home, 324 New Jersey Ave., Absecon. Service will follow at 11AM. Graveside Service will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Mays Landing, New Jersey.
