Lillian Margaret Marshall

Lillian Margaret Marshall passed away July 6, 2026 after a short, hard battle with stage 4 lung cancer. She said she "didn't want to leave", she "just wanted it to stop". She eventually passed on Tuesday afternoon in the presence of loved ones, very quietly and peacefully. We prayed with her, together, that she would ask God to receive her on this journey. Lillian was happy to say she previously survived a bout with "the cancer" 20 years ago. A crossword puzzle genius, she actively lived to fight off the aging process of the mind. Born on April 18, 1931 to Walter J. Davidson and Lillian M. Metz/Davidson in Philadelphia, PA. Lillian spent her youth in South Philly on Porter St. and attended Hallahan High School, Temple University, Manor Jr, College and Atlantic Community College. She remained close friends with many of her "school chums" throughout her life living the loss of each of them. Lillian/Mom was known as "a loving mother, best friend, best neighbor, greatest role model, great person, best smile, hardest worker, great animal lover, a hero, an inspiration, most determined, stubbornly self reliant & independent & a passionate knitter to name only a few things her family and friends would say about her.  

She married George Maurice Walberg around 1956 and together had 3 children, Lisa Anne Crager (Gary), Eric George and Walter Carl (Sheryl Nescoda); 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She remarried in 1974 to Frank Marshall Jr. who died prematurely of cancer at 48 years old, keeping in close contact with Frank's daughter, Gwen. Lillian had a sister, Woody (Stobe Stout) and brother Harry (Kate/Aunt Kay) and many nieces and nephews and their extended families, all of whom she loved as her own.

Lillian would consider many close friends her extended family as well, remembering everyone's birthdays and special dates with personal cards, gifts and phone calls. She made new friends daily with an easy, approachable kindness and a joy for small talk. Many adopted pets were also lucky to call her "Mom" as animals are our best friends at times. We could try to name all her close friends, but may, unintentionally, leave someone out, so you know who you are and how much you meant to her.  Previously from Warminster, PA. Lillian had many job titles during her life to support her children and her idea of self-determination and independence and the confidence to do things her own way. She was a bookkeeper for many years in PA and NJ, a union banquet worker in Atlantic City, a waitress at the "The Country Squire" in PA. and "The Crab Trap" in Somers Point and most adventurist, a self-employed guest house owner in Ocean City after purchasing 1215 Wesley Ave. and naming it "Dune High" due to it's high point on the Island. She was also President of the Ocean City Guest House Association for a time. Lillian came to the shore with Frank for a getaway to look at paintings and "what not" stores and then decided to move on with her dream of owning and operating a guest house in 1974. Hard work for any couple, but determined to do it on her own, battling state/city inspectors and regulators at every turn. She also nurtured many new life-long friendships with her summer and winter rentals. If we can all remember the 70s, 80s, and 90s, it was not an easy time to be a single, guest house owner. She made many friends in the OCGHA as they were a tight knit group working hard to promote Ocean City tourism. Beach tags and all. After selling "Dune High" and moving from Ocean City, she was on to her next life-long dream of being a home-owner in Egg Harbor Twp. where she excelled at her gardening skills, her knitting expertise and of course pet adopter/caregiver. Lillian lived a free, carefree and active lifestyle even driving her car where she wanted up until 3 weeks prior to her passing. She was most proud of her Moon flowers, Hydrangeas, her squirrels and her walnut tree, cutting her own grass on her riding mower and trying to keep up on the weeds. Much more could be written about any person that lives an active life to 95 years young and she would hope that you would have the same fulfillment in your lives in having your own ideas, reaching your own goals and telling her all about it. In lieu of cards or flowers, Lillian would have requested that you make a donation to a "No Kill" Animal Rescue/Shelter of your choice in her name. After a long thought out plan, it was Mom's wish to have her body donated to science. Her remains were donated to "Anatomy Gifts Registry" in Maryland. A gathering for family and friends to be organized in the future.
