Joseph P. Devine, Jr.

Joseph P. Devine Jr., age 81, of Ocean City, New Jersey, passed away unexpectedly on February 2, 2026. Born on September 1, 1944, in Daytona Beach, Florida, Joe lived a full and vibrant life defined by service, hard work, and joy. He proudly entered the United States Marine Corps in April 1962 and served his country honorably until August 1966. Following his military service, he earned his degree from the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science and went on to a distinguished career in accounting and finance, including as an Account Executive with G. M. Heininger, CPA. He continued working with dedication and pride right up until the day of his death.

Joe had a deep love for travel and cooking, especially his frequent trips to St. Thomas and Ireland, destinations that brought him great happiness and adventure. He loved hosting and cooking for family and friends over the years, laughing and having fun around the table, which often stretched into late-night dinners filled with joy and conversation. Always one to enjoy a good time, he was known for his infectious laugh, quick wit, and playful rhyming, which brought smiles and laughter to everyone around him. He especially cherished his time in Ireland, where he enjoyed taking several cooking classes. Sharing his love of cooking with others brought him great joy.

Joe is survived by Margaret, the mother of his children, and their three children: JP, Kathleen (Steve Hoffman), and Shannon. He was a proud grandfather to Grady, Liam, and Owen, sons of Kathleen and Steve, and to Aubrey, Ella, Anita, and Joelle, daughters of Shannon. He is also survived by his siblings, Suzanne Marlin, Michael Devine, Kate Gavin, and Liz Bolger. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph P. and Eva A. Devine, and his siblings, Colleen Maguire, James Devine, Hugh Devine, and Robert Devine.

Joe was deeply committed to leadership, service, and his professional community. He served as Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) in Ocean City, New Jersey, and later as District 17 Commander for the VFW, State of New Jersey, Trenton. He was a Charter Member of American Legion Post 352 in Somers Point, New Jersey. Professionally, Joe held the role of Controller for Cape May County Technical High School (CMCH) and Controller for Sentry III in New York, New York. He was also a member of Hotel Controllers (HFTP), NYC Chapter, Accounting & Consultants, LLC (CHAE), and the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation (MCLEF), where he served as past Assistant Controller.

Joe will be honored with military honors at his funeral in recognition of his dedicated service to the United States Marine Corps.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, from 10:30 to 11:30 AM at St. Francis Cabrini Church, 114 Atlantic Avenue, Ocean City, New Jersey, followed by a Funeral Mass. Burial will take place immediately afterward at the Cape May County Veterans Cemetery, located at 127 Crest Haven Road, Cape May Court House, New Jersey.

He will be forever remembered for his spirited personality, unwavering work ethic, commitment to service, and the joy and laughter he brought to his family, friends, and community. He was truly one of a kind.
