John G. Chambers, 89, of Little Egg Harbor and formerly of Absecon, passed away peacefully at his home, with his beloved wife, Betty, by his side, on May 9, 2025. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, John lived a full and meaningful life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. John spent over four decades as a typesetter for The Press of Atlantic City. He was a proud president of the Typographical Union #377, a role he held with honor and integrity.
Outside of work, John found joy in the great outdoors. He loved to hunt, fish, and play golf with his sons, creating memories that will be treasured for generations. Together with his wife, he explored the open road as a longtime member of the South Jersey Clamdiggers camping club, traveling across the United States and Canada.
John’s warmth, humor, and generous spirit touched all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of sharing in his remarkable journey.
John was predeceased by his loving parents, Jesse and Florence Chambers; and his granddaughter, Justine. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Betty; his children, Suzanne Chambers, John Chambers Jr. (Kathy), Julie Lieb (Nick), Stephen Chambers (Kathie) and Joann Chambers; along with 7 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Also survived by his step-daughters, Vicky McCarrick (Rick) and Susan Blight (Garry); along with 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren.
Our family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Teresa and Diana from Patient Care Hospice for their compassionate care and support during John’s final days.
Family and friends will gather to honor and celebrate John’s life on Monday, May 12, 2025 from 10AM to 11AM at Parsels Funeral Home, 324 New Jersey Avenue, Absecon, NJ 08201.
