McDermott, George Edward, 75, of Las Vegas, formerly of Brigantine, New Jersey, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2016. He was born June 18, 1940, to George Edward and Rose McDermott (Buckley) in Philadelphia, Pa. George honorably served in the United States Marine Corps and retired as the City Manager and Chief Financial Officer of Brigantine, NJ. He was previously employed by the Philadelphia Police Department as a police officer with the elite Philadelphia Highway Patrol and was a member of the Philadelphia Highway Patrol Motorcycle Drill Team. George also worked as a legislative aide to Senator William Gormley, Assemblymen Kenneth LeFevre and Francis Blee. He was formerly Branch Manager of the First National Bank in Brigantine and Vice President of Pennsylvania National Bank in Schuykill Haven, Pa. George volunteered with many charitable and civic organizations including the Brigantine Rams Football Organization where he served as President and coach. He was a member of the United States Marine Corps League, the Fraternal Order of Police and the Wounded Warrior Project. George was passionate about all Philadelphia sports teams, especially his Eagles. He loved Notre Dame football, was an avid golfer and proud of his Irish heritage. George was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and loyal friend to many. His parents and his brother, Joseph McDermott, predecease him in death. George is survived by his loving wife JoAnn; his sister Rosemary Reimer (Jack); his daughters, Patricia Moran (John), and Bridget Dooley (Daren); grandchildren Zachary, Geoffrey & Samantha Moran and Delaney Rose & Patrick Dooley, all were the loves of his life. Visitation will be at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 591 New Jersey Avenue in Absecon, NJ on July 1, 2016 from 10AM-11AM with mass following at 11AM. Burial will be at the Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery in Estell Manor, NJ.
