Arthur Simms

Arthur W. Simms, 90, of Absecon, passed away November 3, 2011. He was born and raised in Mullica Township (Devonshire) and attended Mullica Township Schools. He was a 1939 graduate of Hammonton High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the New Jersey Army National Guard. He served in combat during World War II with the 228th Field Artillery Battalion and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroic achievement during the Normandy Campaign and was awarded the Silver Star for Gallantry in action during the Battle of the Bulge. Upon his return from WWII, he served in the New Jersey Army National Guard as a full time technician for 32 years and retired in 1981. He was a charter member of VFW Post 5043, and a member of the 157th Field Artillery Battalion Assocation, American Legion Post 28 and the South Jersey Chapter, Military Officers Association of America. He was an avid Phillies and Flyers fan and enjoyed wintering in Florida for many years.

He is predeceased by his wife, Norma R. Simms, his brother John and his sister Margaret. He is survived by one son, John Simms and his wife Jayne of Sicklerville and daughter Julia Martin and her husband Edward of Las Vegas, NV. He was the proud grandfather of Jessica Simms and Margaret Simms. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8, Monday, November 7, 2011 at Parsels Funeral Home, 324 New Jersey Ave., Absecon. Also, 10-11, Tuesday, November 8, 2011 with a service at 11AM. Burial will follow at Egg Harbor City Cemetery, Egg Harbor City. For condolences, please visit www.parselsfuneralhome.com.
